This is an addition to a previous post about education. You should read that first here. Six Pixels of Separation has some interesting thoughts on our current education system. Here is an excerpt:
The reality is that the education system is going through some of the most dramatic changes it has faced since the industrial revolution, and schools are struggling to stay ahead and to keep their teaching as up-to-date and relevant as possible.
And with all of these dramatic changes in the economy, universities are even more strapped when it comes to funding new technology, bringing in the right people to teach with it, and providing a high level of results.
A lot of the points made coincide with how I've felt for some time now. It's almost unreasonable to expect universities to provide students with the most up to date information. Things are changing so fast that there is no way that schools could restructure their curriculum as often as they should. So then how valuable is our education really? this shit happens all the time in our lives
high school doesn't teach you how to study for the SAT. College doesn't teach you interviewing skills, how to buy a house, how to pay your taxes...etc.
my brother wants to be a lawyer. You have to go to school for like 4 years and then take an LSAT, which is not taught in the 4 years you are there.
Teach me something i can actually use in the future
